Food Security Center
In 2011, the Food Security Center (FSC) at the University of Hohenheim,
Stuttgart,
Germany awards up to 29 scholarships for postdoctoral researchers and PhD
students for a period of 4 to 36 months. The application deadline is
September 30,
2010. Selection is carried out on a competitive basis and the decisions
will be
communicated up to December 17, 2010. Regarding the details of the different
scholarship programs, the application process and the requirements, please
consult
FSC´s webpage (www.foodsecurity.de - go to "Scholarships"). Only completed
applications using FSC´s application form will be considered.

CALL FOR APPLICATIONS
2010 Global Development Awards and Medals Competition
The Global Development Awards and Medals Competition is an innovative award
scheme launched by the Global Development Network (GDN), with generous
support from the Ministry of Finance, Government of Japan and other
donors. Since
its inception in 2000, GDN has awarded roughly US$ 2 million in research
and travel
grants to finalists and winners. The Competition encourages original
research on
theme based proposals/papers (see below). Winners are chosen by an eminent
jury
at the final event. This event is also GDN´s Annual Conference, with an
audience
of over 500 practitioners in the field of development to whom the
finalists present.
This year, the 12th Annual Global Development Conference will be held in
Bogota,
Columbia in January 2011.
Applications are being accepted under the following Competition categories:
1. Japanese Award for Outstanding Research on Development: This award is for
applicants submitting research proposals that are seeking to explore any
of the
three competition themes in an original and innovative way.
Prizes: First Prize: US $30,000; Second Prize: US $5,000
2. Medals for Research on Development: These medals are for completed
research
papers of outstanding nature on any of the three competition themes.
Prizes: First Prize: US $10,000; Second prize: US $5,000

2.Domestic Resource Mobilization and Financial Sector Development: Another

Master of Science in Tropical Forestry and Management
***2010 - 2011 Call for applications***
The Institute of International Forestry and Forest Products of TU Dresden
is seeking
candidates for joining the two-year Master programme Tropical Forestry and
Management.
The Master´s course aims at qualifying graduates to deal with the growing
challenges of sustainable forest management in the tropics and subtropics.
Special
emphasis is given to the interactions among human being and forest formation
development. Its international orientation towards forest management and
socio-
economics of forestry in the tropics and subtropics makes this programme
unique in
Europe.
For its excellent performance in the past the Master´s course has been
awarded
with the quality label "TOP 10 international Master´s Degree Courses Made in
Germany" in 2008 by the Stifterverband (German Science Council) and the
German
Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).
Deadline for self sponsored students: 30 August 2010 for starting in
October 2010
Deadline for DAAD scholarships: 30 September 2010 (documents to DAAD) and
30 October 2010 (documents to TU Dresden)for starting in October 2011.
Admission requirements: Degree (B.Sc.) in forestry science or other subjects
relevant to the postgraduate course; English - TOEFL: 550 on paper-based test
(PBT) or 213 on computer-based test (CBT)/ or IELTS (band 6) -
certificate; At
least two years of career experience in the field of forestry (for
applying for a DAAD
scholarship only)
