  • What is a Virtual Poster? A Virtual Poster is an electronic submission of a poster presentation in PDF format. It is presented live via Internet video or chat. Virtual Posters are the ideal solution when visa issues, travel restrictions, or lack of funding prevent you from attending the meetings in person.

  • What is the cost? There is a $55 USD cost to submit each Virtual Poster. Payments are made online by credit card only. No additional registration fee will be required to attend the meeting virtually.
  • What is required? A computer with an Internet connection (the faster the better), a web camera (preferred), a Skype account (www.skype.com), a photo of yourself, and two hours to be able to visit with attendees during the Annual Meetings.
Presenting Virtual Posters

Virtual Poster presenters will have an allotted time to be virtually present to discuss their poster with Annual Meetings attendees. Posters should be created as PDFs under 50 megabytes. There are four ways a virtual poster presenter can interact with meetings attendees:

1. Online Comment Form--attendees may submit offline comments to presenters. The comment will send an email to the presenter and post for other attendees to view. Authors may choose to hide comments. Using the comment form requires:

  • An Internet connection: dialup connection is sufficient for using the comment form only, as long as the presenter isn't uploading a large file.
  • Any web browser

2. Text-only Chat--attendeesat the Annual Meeting may text-only chat live with presenters. The text-only chat includes built-in translation capabilities. Chatting live requires:

  • A high-speed Internet connection--the recommended bandwith is 10 to 64 kbps
  • Any web browser
  • Skype software, which can be downloaded for free at: www.skype.com

3. Voice Chat--attendees may speak live with presenters. Headphones and microphones will be provided for attendees at the Annual Meetings. Voice chat requires:

  • A high-speed Internet connection--the recommended bandwith is 10 to 64 kbps
  • Skype software, which can be downloaded for free at: www.skype.com
  • Speakers and a microphone

4. Videoconference--attendees at the Annual Meetings may see and speak live with presenters. Headphones, microphones, and webcams will be provided for Annual Meetings attendees. Videoconference requires:

  • A high-speed Internet connection such as DSL or cable Internet--the recommended bandwith for videoconferencing is 384 kbps, which both DSL and cable should achieve
  • Skype software, which can be downloaded for free at: www.skype.com
  • Webcam
  • Speakers and a microphone
Viewing Virtual PostersViewing Virtual Posters

Annual Meetings attendees will be able to view Virtual Posters on reserved computers. They will click on the title of the poster, and the uploaded poster will display. The presenter's name, photo, and availability will display. If the presenter is available, the attendee can call them via Skype, either voice or videoconference, depending on whether the presenter has a webcam. They can also use the text-only chat. Support will be available to assist attendees and answer questions.
